Youth in Agroecology Business Exchange and Learning Event held on 12 August 2022

We are proud to report that we participated in the recent Youth in Agroecology business exchange and learning event organised by YALTA, PENLUM and other partners. The function brought together youth farmers, mentors and other stakeholders to discuss success and challenges faced in agribusiness. We were privileged to present on the topic, “Insights opportunities and legal huddles in agribusiness”, highlighting the legal requirements for one to formalise their agricultural business, benefits of formalising their businesses, necessity of written contracts, registration of land, laws governing employer employee relationships, compliance with the law in specific cases like filing returns for companies and payment among others.

How are Exporters of Farm Products Protected under the Laws of Uganda

There is gap in the laws and policies of Uganda in regards to the protection of farmers who deal in exportation of farm produce outside Uganda. Whereas there are laws and international standards to follow in order for one to export agricultural produce, and for their products to be accepted in the destination market, there seems to be no specific law protecting farmers especially in regards to guarantee of payment for their products by the buyers in foreign countries. facilis ratione! The Cooperative Societies (Amendment) Act 2022: Cooperatives to capture information on beneficial owners

A new obligation to capture beneficial ownership information has been imposed on officials and managers of cooperatives. The Cooperative Societies (Amendment) Act 2022 requires every cooperative society to keep a register of beneficial owners. The Act defines a beneficial owner as any natural person who ultimately owns or controls a cooperative society or the natural person on whose behalf a transaction is conducted in the cooperative society, and includes a natural person who exercises ultimate control over a cooperative society. The objective of these amendments is to create extra layers of regulation designed to control money laundering, terrorist financing and reduce tax evasion
